Vintage Gillette Super-speed Twist-to-open De Safety Razor

Offered for your consideration is a vintage Gillette Super-Speed twist-to-open (TTO), double-edged (DE) safety razor. The Super-Speed was one of Gillette’s most venerable designs and was produced in several versions from 1947 to 1974. Featuring a heavy nickel chrome finish with flare-tipped, grooved handle, this Super-Speed has a J4 date code on the underside showing it was USA-manufactured in the fourth quarter of 1964. So, please take a look at the large photos I’ve taken and read the remaining description to decide if this Gillette Super-Speed razor should be yours. This Gillette Super-Speed is in clean, very good condition. It measures 3¼” long and the head is 1⅝” wide. There is no pitting or rust, just some expected faint scuffs, light water marks on the doors, and a few tiny flecks of chrome loss, as pictured. Plus, the handle and rotating knob are in great shape, and the TTO mechanism opens smoothly and locks down tight. The razor presents quite nicely overall. What’s more, I’ve given this razor a thorough brush washing with very hot water and mild dish soap. Any additional sterilization or polishing will be at the new owner’s discretion. Lastly, at just over 2 ounces, the Super-Speed feels substantial and well-balanced unlike most “throwaway” razors of today—it’ll be a great shaver for the new owner!
